International Early Years Curriculum

TK Cahaya Bangsa Utama, includes pre-school, kindergarten, and daycare, offers early childhood education to children between the ages of one and a half to four years old, in which children combine learning with play in a program run by professionally trained teachers.

Curriculum Overview

We have 3 classes in pre-school:

for ages 1, 5 to 2 years old there is Bumble Bee Class,
for children aged between 2 to 3 years we have Beetle Class, and
for 3 to 4 years old will join Dragonfly Class.

Children who attend preschool are better prepared to enter kindergarten both academically and socially. Our Preschool program in Kinderstation uses International Early Years Curriculum (IEYC) which helps children to develop their gross and fine motor skills, improve their language and communication abilities, and gain independency at a very young age while stimulating creativity. Besides using IEYC, we also use the Montessori Method as well as soft blocks for physical exercise and the Glenn Doman method to teach children reading at a very early age.

Kinderstation kindergarten is the highest level in our school which is divided into 2 (two) levels:

TK A (4-5 years old) : Caterpillar class, and
TK B (5-6 years old) : Butterfly class

Our kindergarten aims to build the child’s learning independency, especially:

to have the ability to make their own decisions,
to managed and solve their own problems, and
having the responsibility for themselves.

We adapt Montessori principles. These principles have been proven in stimulating calmness, freedom, and sharpness in thinking, to build a strong foundation for children in their future learning.

The Glenn Doman method is an innovative and provocative method of learning. We use Glenn Doman flashcards to give your children the fun way on learning how to read.

Even at the early age, your child needs lots of opportunities for physical activity, both for good health and for skill-building. This exercise is done to develop children’s gross motor skills, in a fun way.

A physical activity that is focused on increasing children’s gross motor skills, especially for under 3 years old children. This exercise is to practice balancing and to grow children’s self confidence.

Brain Gym is an innovative new approach to learning that was drawn from a wide body of research from developmental specialists focused on the role that physical movements played in enhancing learning abilities. Brain Gym helps to increase flexibility & coordination, and also provides specific activities to facilitate brain function for physical skills required for activities such as reading, writing & spelling.

It is an exercise so the child can learn how to do living activities in a purposeful way. For example: folding clothes, washing hands, brushing teeth, and so on. These are important for the children to prepare them for their environment that allow them to grow independently.

Religion lesson helps to give the children a better understanding of their faith, make good moral judgments as well as to build up their self-esteem. We conduct religion lesson for Caterpillar and Butterfly classes

In addition to teaching children basic academic skills, we also teach children ways to develop positive character traits. These lessons prepare children to work with others in a positive environment and can teach them how to resolve conflicts in a peaceful way.

We introduce technology to the children to support their future learning. We taught them how to use computer, camera, calculator, etc. For example, we teach students to hold and drag the mouse, we also introduce them to the keyboard, so later they will able to type on a keyboard.

Children undertake subject in Bahasa Indonesia to ensure that they become proficient users of Indonesian national language.

We start to teach children mandarin subject from Dragonfly class. Children are taught vocabulary and song linked to the IPC theme that the children are learning.

Children participate in activities each day to ensure they become confident and proficient readers and writers. For preschool level, we have tracing and phonics (letter sound) subjects. For kindergarten level, we have writing and reading subjects. We also have story telling subject to emerge children’s early literacy.
